Military ALCOHOL-RELATED CHARGES Criminal Lawyers

There is no law stating the men and women who serve in the United States Military cannot consume alcohol. The rules are standard regarding alcohol consumption. You cannot drink and drive outside of the legal limit, and you cannot drink while you are on the job. Not everyone who enlists in the military drinks. Many recruits aren’t even of the legal drinking age when they enlist. However, that doesn’t mean they’re not drinking and having a good time in the barracks, at home, or when they go out at night.

Whether you are of age or not, you cannot drink and commit crimes when you are in the military or out of the military. If you’re arrested for committing a crime while under the influence of alcohol, you must call a criminal attorney right away. You want to work with an attorney who has the kind of military experience you need to benefit your case.

Alcohol-related Charges

A military criminal attorney can defend any alcohol-related charge. The problem with drinking is that it lowers your inhibitions significantly, which often means people make poor decisions while drinking. This is a big problem in the military because there is such a group mentality when it comes to drinking. Officer nights, boys’ nights, and any night you’re not working or you’re overseas comes on like a celebration. People drink, they celebrate, they have a bit too much, and they even feel the need to keep up with their fellow recruits. This can cause some people to make really bad decisions, and that’s when they commit crimes.

– DUI
– Public intoxication
– Public indecency
– Sex crimes
– Violent crimes

It’s not uncommon to find someone who drinks too much urinating in a public place, which turns into an indecent exposure charge. It’s easy enough to defend this charge if you thought you were out of sight of the people in the area such as hidden behind a dumpster, tree, or car. Other people who drink too much make poor decisions and think they can drive. They seem to believe they did not have too much to drink, and they might end up pulled over.

Violent crimes occur from time to time, and they’re more difficult to defend. However, many violent crimes are caused when a fight occurs, and there are numerous defenses we can use to reduce or have your charges dropped completely. One is self-defense, one is lack of intent, and there are plenty of other defenses available.

Sex crimes are another story. Sex crimes are any crimes committed when one person does not consent, is unable to consent, or is too young. For example, a military member has to 18 or older to join. If a 21-year-old young man goes out to drink and have a good time with friends, meets a girl and has a sexual relationship with her only to find out from her father the following day that she’s only 16 and in high school, it’s a sex crime despite her consent. She’s underage, and charges might be filed.

It’s possible you didn’t know how old she was if you met her at a bar or a club where you must be 18 to enter. If she used a fake ID and bought her way into a club or bar that way, your defense is you simply didn’t know she wasn’t of age. We can help you defend yourself against charges filed against you if you are accused of an alcohol-related crime.

Call An Attorney

There are various alcohol-related crimes in the military, and you might suffer the consequences if you’re convicted. You could go to jail, be required to pay a harsh fine, or even spend time on probation. You could end up with a criminal record, discharge dishonorably from the military, and you might even be required to register as a sex offender if the crime is age-related.

Don’t let this happen to you. Call an attorney with ample experience with military law. We can help you figure out what to do, how to handle this case, and how to defend yourself. You can’t afford to defend yourself in a situation like this because your entire future is on the line.
