Is medical marijuana legal? This is shaping up to be an amazing year for the medical marijuana industry in the United States. Just over a week ago, Canada officially made history by passing the new Marijuana Act. In doing so, it has become the first developed country in the world (as well as the second most developed country overall, behind Uruguay} to have legally legalized marijuana. The new Canadian laws make it possible for people with certain serious ailments to use marijuana with a doctor’s approval. Some of the ailments that can now be treated with marijuana are cancer, glaucoma, and MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Many companies are in the space now, like Ccell and Blinc Group.
Is medical marijuana legal in other countries? There is a long and interesting history when it comes to legalized medical cannabis in other countries. In Canada, it is illegal to sell or distribute marijuana, while several nations across the globe have legalized some form of the drug. The Netherlands has been one of the primary international critics of legalization efforts. It has made several efforts to implement a system of cannabis taxation similar to that of alcohol sales. Portugal is also one of the leading nations in Europe at regulating the production and sale of medical cannabis. However, the use of cannabis remains illegal in many countries across the globe.
What are CBD and THC? Just what are CBDs and THCs? These are short names for cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol, respectively. While they may not look anything alike to the casual observer, each represents two very different forms of the medical marijuana plant. Each has unique effects, but they do have some commonalities in effect.
Cannabidiol is the lesser-known of the two chemicals involved in medical cannabis. It is believed to be less harmful than THC, which can actually cross the blood-brain barrier and into the brain. While the two chemicals seem to work in conjunction, CBD cannot be smoked, dabbed on, or ingested. Instead, it acts as an inhibitor and has little impact on the user’s physical performance or behavior. Many in the medical profession believe that it should be legalized for people suffering ill effects from certain illnesses.
Thrown directly under the tongue in a test tube, CBD passes through the blood-brain barrier and directly into the brain. Since no other compounds affect it in this way, it is thought to retain much of its health benefits. For example, CBD might prevent certain cancers from developing or treat other ailments, including depression, epilepsy, and even inflammation. While it cannot reverse any disease, some believe that it helps limit some of the more distressing side effects of medical cannabis. For these reasons, many doctors recommend the use of CBD.
The lack of scientific study done to answer this question may be why CBD is still controversial. However, the current stance of the medical community is that CBD is not a drug but a supplement that can help patients suffering from certain ailments. In addition to helping patients with chronic pain and debilitating symptoms, CBD can improve overall digestion and metabolism, which may alleviate some medical marijuana users’ complaints about the drug’s psychological and physical side effects. The fact that CBD lacks the harmful properties of THC, in many circles, makes it safer than the cannabis plant itself. This might mean the possibility of the regulated legitimate use of CBD for medicinal purposes is closer than ever.
If you are interested in trying this relatively new treatment for your illness, your doctor should be able to help you obtain it legally in most states. However, even if it is not available for you personally, research into alternative treatment methods for medical marijuana is certainly a wise decision. There have been numerous stories of people who have found relief from using CBD without resorting to harder drugs or medication. As more states begin to legalize medical cannabis, more knowledge of this beneficial plant will come to light and expand. As more patients seek out new treatments, we will soon find out whether it is legal to use CBD for certain ailments.
Regardless of what you personally think of medical cannabis, it would help if you didn’t get behind the wheel of a car while under the influence. Driving while impaired is dangerous not only to yourself but also to others. Even if you were not using cannabis, driving under the influence is still a crime, regardless of whether you are using pharmaceutical grade medicine or cannabis. Make sure you are following the rules of the road and that you are driving responsibly. If arrested, do not take responsibility for your actions; it is still your fault and the fault of the officers who saw you driving erratically and decided to pull you over. Regardless of what the law requires, your rights are still protected by law.
