Information about the Glendale County Jail

Individuals who get arrested in Glendale are booked at the Glendale City Jail.  This is the third busiest jail in all of Los Angeles County. The jail is located at 131 N Isabel Street, Glendale, CA 91206, (818) 548-3124.

Glendale City Jail Pay-to-Stay Weekender Program

Notably, the Glendale City Jail offers a unique “pay-to-stay weekender program.”  Inmates who qualify for this program have the option of paying $90 per day to serve their sentences at Glendale City Jail instead of the Los Angeles County Jail.  This fee must be paid in advance.

Inmates who are approved for this program are housed in separate sleeping quarters from other inmates. They get access to day room areas, showers and inmate phones. These inmates may also be obligated to work in the inmate laundry and janitorial service inside the facility.

Glendale California Court

All criminal cases in Glendale are heard at the Glendale Courthouse.  This is a branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court located at 600 East Broadway, Glendale, CA 91206 (818) 265-6400

Glendale Criminal Court Justice System Process

After individuals who have been arrested are released from jail on bail or their own recognizance, they agree to show up to all required court appearances.  A defendant should never miss any of their court appearances; the judge will order the issuance of a bench warrant for their arrest if they don’t show up. That said, in many cases, defendants are allowed to miss court as long as their private attorney appears in court for them.

After the arraignment, the defense attorney will attempt to persuade the district attorney to reduce or dismiss the charges against the defendant.  Each case is unique.  In some scenarios, this negotiation can take minutes.  Other cases take months to negotiate.  In the majority of criminal cases, resolution comes in the form of a plea agreement, because both sides would prefer to avoid trial.

Preliminary Hearing

Defendants facing felony charges are entitled to have a preliminary hearing.   In cases where a defendant is indicted by grand jury, they do not get preliminary hearings. The purpose of the preliminary hearing is so that the District Attorney can show the court that they have enough proof to move forward with prosecution.

Generally speaking, prosecutors usually win the preliminary hearing.   Nevertheless, this hearing can be beneficial because they show the defense attorney how strong – or weak – their case is.   This may assist the defense attorney in preparing for trial.

The Outcome of a Glendale Criminal Trial

Should the criminal charge be dismissed, then the case ends.

If the defendant gets convicted, they will then face a sentencing hearing.

If the defendant took a plea agreement, then the judge will typically impose whatever sentence the two sides agreed to.

Often, first-time offenders are eligible to go on probation as a way to stay out of jail. Customary terms of probation include going to classes, paying fines on time, not drinking, going to rehabilitation, and avoiding further arrests.   At the end of the timeframe, if the defendant completes all these terms, he or she can remain free.
