Have you ever been in a situation where a prosecuting attorney or investigator warned you not to leave town during a criminal process or on a crime show? This is because fleeing to avoid prosecution or giving testimony is a serious offense that can lead to severe criminal penalties in federal court. At Spodek Law Group, we understand how crucial it is to have a federal lawyer on your side who is willing to simplify your side of the process while taking care of the complex and difficult legal work behind the scenes. We are here to advise you on the best course of action to take during your criminal case, and if you have already been accused of UFAP or another unlawful flight offense in Michigan, Attorney Todd Spodek and his team are ready to take over your defense and fight for your freedom.
As charges mount, the need for an experienced federal lawyer becomes even more critical. At Spodek Law Group, we have a team of licensed federal attorneys who know how to handle the unique issues you are facing. With so much at stake, it is crucial that you get a lawyer on your side as soon as possible, and that you work with a private defender who is committed to protecting your best interests and who has time to work with you in your unique case.
There are three distinct situations which can lead to UFAP charges in Michigan. First, if you move or travel in interstate or foreign commerce with intent to avoid prosecution or custody or confinement after a conviction under the laws of the place you flee for a crime or attempt which is either a felony or punishable by death, you can be found guilty of UFAP. Similarly, if you move or travel to avoid giving testimony in any criminal felony or death penalty proceedings, you can be found guilty under this section. Third, if you move or travel to avoid being served or to avoid contempt proceedings, you can be found guilty.
According to federal law, anyone found guilty under this section can face up to 5 years behind bars and a possible fine. Keep in mind that these penalties will add on to any penalties for the offense you allegedly fled from, and in turn, could hurt your future case, especially if you were hoping to get out on bail. At Spodek Law Group, we understand how critical it is to get the best possible result in your federal UFAP proceedings, and the rest of your criminal case. We will handle your case and ensure you get the representation you deserve.
Our federal criminal defense team at Spodek Law Group is committed to doing whatever it takes to get you the results you deserve in your case.
